The importance of identities for families, organizations, and communities.

In psychological theory and research individual needs, emotions, and motivations are examined to explain and perhaps modify incidents of functional and dysfunctional behavior in society. However, understanding how these insights relate to societal outcomes also requires an analysis of how individuals connect to each other in families, organizations and communities. In this keynote I will present results from a long standing program of research, to reveal how individual level cognitions, emotions and behaviors are impacted by their social identities.
